In 1965, M. Cambern showed the following theorem. Theorem. Let \(T\) be a surjective linear isometry of \(C^{(1)}([0,1])\) equipped with the norm \(\| f\|_c= \sup\{| f(x)|+| f'(x)|; x\in[0,1]\}\). Then \[ (Tf)(x)= \alpha f(\tau(x))\quad (f\in C^{(1)}([0,1]),\;x\in[0, 1]) \] where \(\alpha\) is a complex number with \(|\alpha|= 1\) and \(\tau\) is either id or 1-id. Let \(K\) be a compact Hausdorff space and \(\delta\) be a closed *-derivation with dense domain \({\mathcal D}(\delta)\) in \(C(K)\). Suppose that the norm of \(f\in{\mathcal D}(\delta)\) is given by \(\| f\|_c= \sup\{| f(x)|+|\delta(f)(x)|; x\in K\}\). Then, \({\mathcal D}(\delta)\) is a generalization of \(C^{(1)}([0, 1])\) in the above theorem. In this paper, it is shown that any surjective linear isometry of \({\mathcal D}(\delta)\) equipped with the norm \(\| f\|_c\) is induced by a homeomorphism of \(K\). When \(\delta\) is a closed extension of the differentiation \(d/dt\) on \([0,1]\), a detailed structure theorem is obtained. Especially, if \(\delta\) is \(d/dt\), then our result implies the Cambern's theorem mentioned above.
