Let \(A\) be a local Noetherian ring which has a dualizing complex. \textit{G. Faltings} [Math. Ann. 238, 175-192 (1978; Zbl 0398.14002)] proved that there exist Macaulayfications for quasi-projective schemes \(X\) over \(A\) if the non-Cohen-Macaulay locus of \(X\) has dimension at most one. The paper under review extends Faltings' result to the case the non-Cohen-Macaulay locus of \(X\) has dimension at most 2. The proper birational morphism that resolves the non-Cohen-Macaulay locus of \(X\) is obtained by blowing up a product of ideals generated by subsystems of a kind of a standard sequence. Meanwhile, following the same approach the author has constructed Macaulayfications for separated schemes of finite type over \(A\) with arbitrary non-Cohen-Macaulay locus [\textit{T. Kawasaki}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 352, No. 6, 2517-2552 (2000; Zbl 0954.14032)].
