[Part I, Invent. Math. 131, No. 2, 419-451 (1998).] The authors consider the Baumslag-Solitar groups \(\text{BS}(1,n)=\{(a,b)\mid bab^{-1}=a^n\}\) (quotient of the free group on \((a,b)\) by the relation above) and prove that if a finitely generated group \(G\) is quasi-isometric to \(\text{BS}(1,n)\) for some \(n\geq 2\), then \(G\) is an extension by a finite group, of a subgroup \(\Gamma\) which is abstractly commensurable with \(\text{BS}(1,n)\). This proves, in this special solvable group case, an analogue of a result of Gromov on virtually nilpotent groups being classified by their quasi-isometry class.
