The authors suggest a direct multirate sampled-data \({\mathcal H}_2\) design for a system with infinite dimensional input/output spaces. Instead of converting it to an equivalent pure discrete-time system with finite dimensional input/output spaces, they deal with operators directly. The operator compositions are computed explicitly in state space formulas using discrete multirate lifting and matrix exponentials. This approach reduces the effort in dealing with the causality issue and combines theoretic attractiveness with reduction of computational effort. The results of this paper have been implemented in a MATLAB toolbox for multirate systems and control currently under development.
