A general result involving the generalized hypergeometric function is obtained by elementary manipulation of series and with its help a summation formula involving Laguerre polynomials is derived. An interesting special case expressing \(\text{Cos} 2x -\text{Sin} 2n\) in terms of Laguerre polynomials is also given.
