The idea of using coalgebras to define supermanifolds, in particular infinite-dimensional ones, goes back to Batchelor, who in particular was interested in defining the supermanifold of maps between two finite-dimensional supermanifolds. The paper under review develops this viewpoint by describing a category of coalgebras (smooth coalgebras) which satisfy a requirement equivalent to the smoothness of the supermanifold they correspond to. After a good introduction to the setting, the paper carefully describes the category of smooth coalgebras, and shows that it includes the category of Fréchet (ordinary) manifolds, and that of supermanifolds in the sense of Berezin-Kostant-Leĭtes. The paper is ternely and precisely written and makes a nice reading.
