On classes of \(p\)-adic Lie groups (Q1299558)

Properties of \(p\)-adic algebraic groups are studied. The main result is on non-contracting groups: A group \(G\) is called non-contracting if the identity \(e\) is not a limit point of \(\{x^ngx^{-n}\}\) for any \(g\in G\backslash \{e\}\) and any \(x\in G\) (\(n\) runs over the rational integers). Equivalent descriptions of this property are given. Among others, it is shown that a non-contracting Zariski connected group is a compact extension of its nilradical.
