With increasing use of computers, there is an increasing need for user-adapted systems. Hence the user modeling is inherently a multidisciplinary topic, which demonstrates the Seventh User Modeling Conference held in Canada in June 1999. The papers in this volume provide a foundation for the construction of user-adapted interactive systems. The contents include 27 full papers like user models to assist system understanding; the user and drive adaption of system actions; constructing user models explicitly; building user models unobtrusively; managing user models; architectures and representations.
