In [Math. Methods Oper. Res. 48, No. 3, 349-357 (1998)], \textit{G. Y. Chen} and \textit{X. X. Huang} gave a unified variational principle for vector-valued functions. In the present paper they give four equivalents of a corollary of this principle, generalizing the equivalence results of \textit{W. Oettli} and \textit{M. Thera} [Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 48, No. 3, 385-392 (1993; Zbl 0793.54025)] to the vector case and improving the equivalence results of \textit{G. Isac} [Lect. Notes Econ. Math. Syst. 432, 148-163 (1996; Zbl 0869.90062)]. Furthermore, they apply one of the equivalents to derive the vector form of the ``drop theorem'' [\textit{W. Oettli} and \textit{M. Thera} (loc. cit.)]. Applying the unified variational principle, the authors obtain a fixed point theorem for directional contractions as an application of their vector variational principle, generalizing a fixed point theorem for directional contractions in [\textit{F. H. Clarke}, ``Optimization and nonsmooth analysis'' (1983; Zbl 0582.49001)].
