The authors develop some upper estimates for heat kernels and apply the estimates to obtain Sobolev inequalities. In particular the first estimate, that generalizes various recent similar results, is about a type of manifold in a rank one symmetric space that is of irreducible type. The second estimate is for general submanifold in a space form, where the estimate is obtained using the length of the mean curvature vector.
