Let \(f\) be an elliptic cusp form of integral weight \(k\) on \(SL_2(\mathbb Z)\) which is a Hecke eigenform. Let \(L_2(f,s)\) be the symmetric square \(L\)-function attached to \(f\), then it is regarded as the standard \(L\)-function of \(f\) on \(SL_2(\mathbb Z)\) by \(L(s,f,\underline{st})=L_2(s+k-1,f)\). In this paper the author derives a formula which connects the zeros of \(L(s,f,\underline{st})\) with the Fourier coefficients of non-holomorphic Eisenstein series on the Siegel modular group \(Sp_2(\mathbb Z)\). The result is proved in an application of the projection operator on the space of \(C^\infty\)-automorphic forms introduced by \textit{J. Sturm} [Duke Math. J. 48, 327-350 (1981; Zbl 0483.10026)], using the integral representation for the standard \(L\)-functions by \textit{S. Böcherer} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 362, 146-168 (1985; Zbl 0565.10025)] and the explicit Fourier expansion of Eisenstein series by \textit{S. Mizumoto} [Math. Ann. 297, 581-625 (1993; Zbl 0786.11024)].
