The authors study the (double) Mackey action \(\big(G,(\rho,\alpha)\big)\) that is induced by an amenable type II or type III group \(G\) acting on a Lebesgue measure space and a product cocycle \(\alpha\times\rho\) where the Radon-Nikodým cocycle takes values in \({\mathbb R}\) and the 1-cocycle \(\alpha\) takes values in a locally compact separable group \(A\). For two such actions they introduce the notion of weak and stable weak equivalence and prove that \(\big(G,(\rho,\alpha)\big)\), in the type II case, is stably weakly equivalent to a product odometer supplied with a product cocycle if and only if the action is approximately transitive. In the type III case weak equivalence holds if and only if the double Mackey action is approximately transitive.
