The authors consider the problem of construction of range restricted univariate and bivariate interpolants to gridded data using Gregory's rational \(C^1\) splines and related rational quintic \(C^2\) splines. Assuming that the lower and upper obstacle are compatible with the data set, it is found that the tension parameters occurring in the mentioned splines classes can be always determined in such a way that range restricted interpolation is successful.
