The Appel function of the first kind is defined by the series (we use Pochammer symbols) \[ F_1(a,b,b';c;x,y)=\sum_{i,j=0}^\infty {(a)_{i+j}(b)_i(b')_j \over (c)_{i+j} i!j!} x^i y^j, \] converging in \(|x|<1\) and \(|y|<1\). Using Picard's integral representation, the authors obtain a finite sum expression when all the parameters \(a,b,b',c\) are positive integers and \(c>a\). Moreover it is found that the function has two overlapping singularities (one polar and one logarithmic) in the points \(x=1\) and \(y=1\).
