The study of the two-point distortion theorem begun with a paper of \textit{C. Blatter} [Commentarii Math. Helv. 53, 651-659 (1978; Zbl 0398.30004)] in which he presented the result valid for \(f\) regular and univalent in \(D:|z|<1\) with \(\rho\) the hyperbolic distance between \(z_1\) and \(z_2\), \(|z_1|,|z_2|< 1\) \[ \bigl|f(z_1)-f(z_2)\bigr |^2 \geq{\sinh 2\rho\over 8\cosh 4\rho} \sum^2_{j=1} \bigl(1-|z_j |^2\bigr) \bigl|f'(z_j) \bigr|^2. \] Actually the multiplier on the right-hand side is incorrect as was pointed out by \textit{S.-A. Kim} and \textit{P. Minda} (Pac. J. Math. 163, No. 1, 137-157 (1994; Zbl 0788.30009)] and they extended the result to obtain \[ \bigl|f(z_1)- f(z_2)\bigr |\geq {\sinh 2\rho \over 2(2\cosh^2p \rho)^{1/p}}\biggl( \bigl|D_1f(z_1)\bigr |^p+ \bigl|D_1f(z_2) \bigr|^p \biggr)^{1/p} \] with \(D_1f(z)= f'(z)(1-|z|^2)\) valid for \(p\geq P\) with some \(P\), \(1<P\leq 3/2\), giving an appropriate equality statement. It should be remarked that the authors interpret distortion as being the distance \(|f(z_1)-f(z_2)|\) while traditionally distortion means \(|f'(z)|\). The reviewer [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 30, No. 2, 151-158 (1998; Zbl 0921.30016)] improved this result by showing that it was valid for all \(p\geq 1\) and not for \(0<p<1\). He also gave a corresponding upper-bound for \(|f(z_1)-f(z_2)|\). \textit{W. Ma} and \textit{P. Minda} (Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Math. 22, No. 2, 425-444 (1997; Zbl 0908.30016)] gave some such results for bounded regular univalent functions: In addition to expository remarks on these and some related problems in this paper the authors give a different form of upper bound for \(|f(z_1)-f(z_2)|\) and a comparison result between hyperbolic and Euclidean distance in simply-connected domains.
