The author examines effective thermoelastic properties of graded doubly-periodic particulate matrix composites in varying external stress fields. For this, he considers a linear elastic composite medium consisting of a homogeneous matrix with aligned ellipsoidal uncoated or coated inclusions arranged in a doubly-periodic array and subjected to inhomogeneous boundary conditions. The effective field homogeneity hypothesis is used near the inclusions. The general integral equation obtained here for the analysis of infinite number of inclusion problems reduces to the analysis of finite number of inclusions in some representative volume element. The author solves the integral equation by employing modified Neumann series. A nonlocal macroscopic constitutive equations relating cell-averaged stresses to the strains is derived and applied to the analysis of a doubly-periodic inclusion field in a finite ply subjected to a stress gradient along the functionally graded direction. Finally, the author examines numerically tensors describing local and nonlocal effective elastic properties of finite inclusion plies containing a simple cubic lattice of rigid inclusions and voids.
