The authors consider collocation solutions in the space of quadratic \(C^1\)-splines for initial value problems for first-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs), with collocation at the points \(x_k+ \beta h\) \((0<\beta\leq 1)\). The focus of the analysis is on the attainable order of convergence and on absolute stability as \(\beta\in [1/2,1]\). A general divergence/convergence and stability analysis of \(C^d\)-spline collocation approximation of degree \(\mu>d\) for ODEs was given by \textit{H. N. Mülthei} [Numer. Math. 32, 147-157 and 343-358 (1979; Zbl 0409.65030 and Zbl 0435.65070); ibid. 34, 143-154 (1980; Zbl 0435.65071)].
