    The author studies Long \(H\)-dimodules, \(H\) a bialgebra, i.e., vector spaces \(M\) which are simultaneously left \(H\)-modules and right \(H\)-comodules with one compatibility condition, in connection with solutions \(R\) in \(\text{End}(M\otimes M)\) of the \(\mathcal D\)-equation \(R^{12}R^{23}=R^{23}R^{12}\). This is somewhat analogous to Yetter-Drinfeld modules and solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. The main result is that if \(M\) is finite-dimensional, and \(R\) is a solution of the \(\mathcal D\)-equation, then there exists a bialgebra \(D(R)\) and a Long \(D(R)\)-dimodule structure on \(M\) such that \(R\) has a simple description in terms of this \(D(R)\)-dimodule structure. In a final section, he also describes solutions \(R\) of the \(\mathcal D\)-equation when \(M\) is finite dimensional in terms of a comatrix coalgebra and a coideal \(I(R)\) of it.
