The application of the method of quasi-reversibility to the sideways heat equation (Q1304697)

The sideways Cauchy problem for the heat equation \(u_t=u_{xx}\) is the problem where \(u\) and \(u_x\) are prescribed along the line \(x=0\), and a solution is sought in the interval \(0\leq x<2\pi\). The method of quasi-reversibility consists in finding suitable well-posed approximations of the ill-posed sideways problem and using the solutions of the former to approximate the solutions of the latter. In the present paper an algorithm is proposed along these lines and it is discussed from numerical and theoretical points of view.
