Coverings and integrability of the Gauss-Mainardi-Codazzi equations (Q1304729)

It is known that one can give a zero-curvature representation for the Gauss-Codazzi equations obtained from the embedding of a two-surface in Euclidean three-space. The authors construct a zero-curvature representation for four systems of equations containing a parameter; they are derived from the Gauss-Codazzi equations by imposing an additional constraint. The results are given in two forms, one for which the two-surface metric satisfies \(g_{11}=g_{22}=0\), and one for which \(g_{11}=1\) and \(g_{12}=0\). The arguments, which follow earlier work of the second author, are rapidly outlined.
