The authors consider the volume preserving evolution equation \(V=H - \overline{H}\) acting on a surface with boundary, \(\Gamma (t) \subseteq {\mathbb R}^3\), which intersects a fixed surface \(\Sigma\) at right angle along \(\partial \Gamma (t)\). Here \(V\) is the normal velocity at \(p \in \Gamma(t)\), \(H:=H(p)\) is the mean curvature, while \(\overline{H}\) is the average mean curvature of the surface. Under the assumption that the volume enclosed between \(\Gamma(t)\) and \(\Sigma\) is a small constant, if \(\Gamma (0)\) is close to a small hemisphere, it is shown that \(\Gamma(t)\) slides on the fixed surface keeping its almost hemispherical shape and the path of its center on \(\Sigma\) is approximately one of the orbits of the tangential gradient flow induced by the mean curvature of \(\Sigma\).
