The authors investigate two realizations of \(d^N=0\), \(N>2\) generalization of classical exterior differential calculus. The first one is constructed on a smooth finite dimensional manifold by means of analogues of classical differential forms which contain first order differentials of local coordinates as well as higher order differentials. This approach is based on a generalization of the Grassmann algebra which displays a representation of the cyclic group \(Z_3\) by cubic roots of unity. The second realization is constructed with the help of generalized Clifford algebras. The introduction of covariant differentials leads to generalization of the gauge principle and to a new version of gauge field theory.
