The authors investigate the Koszul property for quotients of affine semigroup rings by semigroup ideals. If \(R=k[\Lambda]/J\) denotes such a quotient, with \(k\) a field and \(\Lambda\) a semigroup, they show that the computation of \(\text{Tor}_\bullet^R(k,k)\) is equivalent to the computation of the relative homology of order complexes of the divisor poset of \(\Lambda\) and certain combinatorially defined sub-complexes. A concrete geometric description and topological analysis of these complexes is also given. These results allow to recover and generalize known results asserting that some of the rings under consideration are Koszul. Moreover a generalization of the notion of Koszul algebras is given, to the case of local rings and \(\mathbb{N}^d\)-graded algebras. This more general definition turns out to be satisfied by all Cohen-Macaulay rings of minimal multiplicity. A rational expression for the Poincaré series of such rings is given.
