Let \(\text{Diff}^+(S^1)\) denote the group of orientation preserving diffeomorphisms of the circle \(S^1\). This is a Fréchet Lie group. Let \(T^1\) denote the subgroup of rotations. Then the quotient space \(T^1\setminus \text{Diff}^+(S^1)\) is a Fréchet manifold which admits an almost complex structure. This raises the question whether this almost complex structure is integrable, i.e., comes from a holomorphic coordinate system. In this article it is shown that this is indeed the case: The author constructs a diffeomorphism between \(T^1\setminus \text{Diff}^+(S^1)\) and an open subset of a complex Fréchet vector space. The complex structure obtained in this way is invariant under the natural \(\text{Diff}^+(S^1)\)-action on \(T^1\setminus \text{Diff}^+(S^1)\). The construction is based on the theory of quasiconformal mappings. Similar results are obtained for the quotient \(PSU(1,1)\setminus \text{Diff}^+(S^1)\).
