The main result of this paper is an extension of the work of \textit{J. L. Brylinski} and \textit{V. Nistor} on the cyclic cohomology of Hausdorff smooth étale groupoids \(\mathcal G\) [\(K\)-Theory 8, No. 4, 341-365 (1994; Zbl 0812.19003)], concerning the computation of the (periodic) cyclic homology of the convolution algebra \(\mathcal C_c^{\infty}(\mathcal G)\) of smooth complex valued functions with compact support on the morphism space of the groupoid. The homology groups decompose into direct sums of localized homologies, some of which are called elliptic and some hyperbolic. The hyperbolic components are generally the least accessible. In the paper under review the author deals with the non-Hausdorff situation and also with the computations of the hyperbolic components. The author develops the machinery at the proper level of generality and gives among other things a Feigin-Tsygan-Nistor type spectral sequence for crossed products by étale groupoids. The author gives a computation of the elliptic components of \(HP_*(\mathcal C_c^\infty(\mathcal G))\) and a description of the hyperbolic components of \(HC_*(\mathcal C_c^\infty(\mathcal G))\), and also a vanishing condition for the hyperbolic components of \(HP_*(\mathcal C_c^\infty(\mathcal G))\). These results extend older results for groups and Hausdorff étale groupoids. Examples like group actions on manifolds and foliations are considered.
