It is proved that any locally finite group contains a largest locally soluble normal subgroup (the locally soluble radical). Moreover, the locally soluble radical of a locally finite group is characterized in terms of prime normal subgroups of the group. Here, a normal subgroup \(P\) of a group \(G\) is said to be prime if, for all normal subgroups \(A\) and \(B\) of \(G\) such that \([A,B]\leq P\), we have \(A\leq P\) or \(B\leq P\).
