Linear, discrete-time, time-invariant, finite-dimensional control systems are considered. Using algebraic methods, necessary and sufficient conditions for controllability and reachability in a given time interval for systems with positive coefficients are formulated and proved. Positive systems with linear state feedbacks are also considered and it is shown that reachability is not preserved for systems with state feedbacks. Moreover, it is proved that positive systems which are not reachable or not controllable can be made reachable or controllable by a suitable choice of the state feedback gain matrix. The results given in the paper extend, for positive discrete-time control systems, controllability and reachability theorems presented in the monograph [\textit{T. Kaczorek}, Linear control systems. Vol. 1: Analysis of multivariable systems. New York: John Wiley \& Sons Inc. (1992; Zbl 0784.93002); Vol. 2: Synthesis of multivariable systems and multidimensional systems. New York: John Wiley \& Sons Inc. (1993; Zbl 0784.93003)]. The paper also contains several remarks and comments on controllability and reachability problems for linear discrete-time systems.
