The author characterizes mass-minimizing submanifolds with respect to some Riemannian metrics using techniques developed by \textit{R. Harvey} and \textit{H. B. Lawson jun.} [Am. J. Math. 104, 607-633 (1981; Zbl 0508.57021)] and \textit{D. Sullivan} [Comment. Math. Helv. 54, 218-223 (1979; Zbl 0409.57025)]. He proves that if a compact, oriented manifold \(M\) is embedded in \(X\) is different from 0, then there exists a Riemannian metric \(g\) on \(X\) such that \(M\) is mass minimizing in its real homology class with respect to \(g\). Also equivariant versions of the above result are considered.
