Let \(q\) be an \(n\)-th root of unity in a field \(k\). The author studies the Hopf algebra \(H_ n(q)\), the path algebra of the cyclic quiver \(Z_ n\), and a finite-dimensional quotient Hopf algebra \(\Lambda_ n(q)\). If \(d\) is the order of \(q\), \(\Lambda_ n(q)\) has dimension \(nd\) with antipode of order \(2d\). If \(d = n\) and the characteristic of \(k\) does not divide \(d\), \(\Lambda_ n(q)\) was constructed by the reviewer [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 68, 2631-2633 (1971; Zbl 0222.16012)]. If \(n\) is odd, \(\Lambda_ n(q)\) has a quotient isomorphic to a finite-dimensional quotient of \(U_ q(sl_ 2)\). The author's presentation of \(\Lambda_ n(q)\) facilitates the study of their representations. The finitely-generated \(\Lambda_ n(q)\)-modules form a Krull-Schmidt category with only a finite number of isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules whose tensor product can be described. The author also considers almost-split sequences arising from indecomposable modules.
