Classical diophantine equations (Q1313414)

This is a very fine translation of the author's original Russian monograph (1982) [for a review see Zbl 0523.10008]. Since nearly a dozen years have passed since the publication of this book, one might well fear that it is nearly out-of-date, given the rapid advances in transcendence theory and Diophantine approximation in recent years. This is not so. Even now one finds that the author's emphasis is still highly original, and the book contains much material not easily accessible elsewhere. It is hoped that the publication of this work in English will allow many more mathematicians to study it and develop many of its ideas further.
