Analogous to the notion of weak Chebyshev function spaces given by \textit{R. Zielke} [Discontinuous Chebyshev systems (1979; Zbl 0423.41015)], WT measure vector spaces is introduced and a necessary and sufficient condition for an \(n\)-dimensional space to be a WT measure vector space is given in this paper. It is shown that WT measure vector spaces have properties similar to those of weak Chebyshev spaces. Let \(D\) be a totally ordered locally compact set (in ordered topology) and \(\mu\) be a signed \(\sigma\)-finite Borel measure on \(D\). Then \(\mu\) is said to have at least \(k\) sign changes if there exists \(k+1\) measurable sets \(E_ 0< E_ 1<\cdots< E_ k\) (where \(F< G\) means \(x< y\) for any \(x\in F\) and \(y\in G\)) such that \(\mu(E_ i)\mu(E_{i+1}<0\), \(i=0,1,\dots,k-1\). If \(\mu_ 1,\mu_ 2,\dots,\mu_ n\) be \(n\) signed \(\sigma\)-finite measures on \(D\), an \(n\)-dimensional measure vector space \(M=\text{span}\{\mu_ 1,\dots,\mu_ n\}\) is called a WT measure vector space if any \(\mu\in M\) has at most \(n-1\) sign changes. Theorem. Let \(\mu_ i\), \(i=1,2,\dots,n\), be \(n\) linearly independent \(\sigma\)-finite Borel signed measure on \(D\). Then the following are equivalent: (i) \(M=\text{span}\{\mu_ 1,\dots,\mu_ n\}\) is a WT measure vector space; (ii) For any \(x_ 1< x_ 2<\cdots< x_{n-1}\) in \(D\) there exists a non-trival \(\mu\in M\) such that \((-1)^ i\mu|_{(x_ i,x_{i+1)}}\geq 0\), \(i=0,1,\dots,n-1\) and \(\mu(\{x_ i\})=0\), \(i=1,\dots,n-1\), where \(x_ 0=-\infty\) and \(x_ n=+\infty\).
