Let \(S(x,k)\) denote the set of positive integers \(\leq x\) that have exactly \(k\) prime factors, counted with multiplicity. For any prime \(p\), let \(V_ p(n)\) denote the exponent of \(p\) in the prime factorization of \(n\). In the paper under review, the author continues his study of the distribution of \(V_ p(n)\) among the elements of \(S(x,k)\), concentrating on the case \(p=2\). Previously in Part I [Prog. Math. 85, 119-132 (1990; Zbl 0719.11057)] he had shown that if \(k\geq (2+\varepsilon)\log \log x\) then the numbers \[ {{V_ 2(n)-k +2\log \log (x2^{-k})} \over {\sqrt{2 \log\log (x2^{-k})}}}, \qquad n\in S(x,k) \] \vskip3mm have asymptotic normal distribution. He now proves an asymptotic estimate for the corresponding moments of order \(q\), for any positive integer \(q\). This yields another proof and a slight strengthening of his earlier result.
