    Let \(J_ \mu\) be the Bessel function of first kind and complex order \(\mu= \nu+ i\tau\) with \(\tau\neq 0\). Using the earlier amazing result, that \(\rho= \rho_ 1+ i\rho_ 2 \in\mathbb{C}\) is a zero of \(J_ \mu\) iff \(2/\rho\) is an eigenvalue of an elementary linear operator in a Hilbert space, the authors derive the following inequalities. Always \(\tau\rho_ 1/ \rho_ 2> 1+\nu\) holds. If \(\nu>-1\), then \(| \rho_ 2|> |\tau|\) and \(|\rho_ 1 |>j_{\nu,1}\) hold, where \(j_{\nu,1}\) is the smallest positive zero of \(J_ \nu\). Analogously the authors prove the following results for any zero \(\lambda= \lambda_ 1+ i\lambda_ 2 \neq 0\) of the \(N\)-th degree Lommel polynomial depending on the parameter \(\mu\). Always \(\lambda_ 2\neq 0\), and \(1+\nu< (-\tau( \lambda_ 1/ \lambda_ 2< N+\nu\), and \(|\lambda |< \cos(\pi/ (N+1))/ |\tau|\) hold. If \(\nu>-1\), then \(0<| \lambda_ 1|< 1/j_{\nu,1}\) holds. These inequalities partly generalize results of the reviewer [\textit{H. J. Runckel}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 97, 114-120 (1984; Zbl 0603.30010)].
