The use of the self-similar solution of the hypersonic boundary layer equations, valid for flow over a semi-infinite plate, for calculating the aerodynamic characteristics of a plate of finite length is unjustified. A correct solution can be obtained only by taking the flow in the wake into account. The second point of importance relates to the presence in the solution of a singularity of the ``saddle'' type. From this there follows the need to develop a numerical method that would make it possible to continue the solution into the so-called ``blocking'' section.
