The authors analysed the unsteady flow of a liquid film over a cold/hot rotating disc using matched asymptotic expansion under the assumptions of radially uniform film thickness varying with time. The velocity and temperature distributions and the rate of heat transfer are derived and discussed numerically. The variations of the uniform film thickness with some non-dimensional parameters \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are shown graphically. The authors observed a novel feature of reversal flow on the free surface of the film depending on \(\alpha\) when the disc was heated from below axisymmetrically, for which a physical explanation was also included. The authors discussed also the heat flows from the disc to the film and from the film to the disc, when the disc was cooled from below, while heat flow directions were reversed when the disc was heated from below.
