A computer-aided design-oriented representation for developable surfaces is presented. A developable surface is considered as the envelope of a single-parameter family of planes. In particular, the duality is exploited that exists between plane and point geometries to investigate the geometric representation for developable surfaces. Therefore the control planes are designed with the help of rational Bézier and B- spline bases. De Casteljau- and Farin-Boehm-type construction algorithms are discussed for Bézier developable surfaces. By duality arguments the constructions were considerably simplified.
