The authors consider accelerated projection methods, developing their earlier results [see \textit{D. R. Dellwo} and \textit{M. B. Friedman} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 28, No. 1, 236-250 (1991; Zbl 0725.65056)]. Since the projection operation remains unchanged the communication work associated with the solution of the relevant algebraic system is significantly reduced when compared to the classical techniques which require projection onto a space of greater dimension for increased accuracy. The methods are implemented in details for the weakly singular linear integral equation of the second kind, which appears in the special case of the theory of intrinsic viscosity. Parallelization is used to set up the algebraic systems whereas the solutions of the system itself are performed in serial. The numerical results are obtained on a Balance 2100 shared memory multiprocessor system using SHEDULE parallel programming package [\textit{J. J. Dongarra} and \textit{D. C. Sorenson}, SHEDULE users guide, Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne (1987)].
