The compressible flowfield has been investigated numerically by using an implicit Lagrangian method. Weak shock waves can be included. The procedure does not require an added artificial viscous term since it contains a built-in mechanism to damp high-frequency disturbances behind shock waves. One-dimensional shock flow problems have been discussed. Some results have been compared with exact solutions. It could be shown that the method could not give good results for the Riemann problem. However, it is suitable when contact discontinuities are of prime interest.
