The authors discuss an analysis of the least squares finite element method for a steady electromagnetic field in two dimensions. The analysis shows that regular finite element spaces with piecewise linear polynomials can be choosen to represent the magnetic field strength \(H\) and the conducted electric density \(J\) (the analyzed problem is modelled by the Maxwell equations). The error of the numerical results in \(H_ 1\)-norm is studied.
