Given \(p\) and \(q\), \(1< p\leq q< \infty\), the two weight problem for the Fourier transform consists of determining necessary and sufficient conditions on weights \(w\) and \(v\) such that \[ \left(\int_{{\mathfrak R}^ n} |\widehat f(x)|^ q w(x) dx\right)^{p/q}\leq C \int_{{\mathfrak R}^ n} | f(x)|^ p v(x)dx, \] where \(C\) is a constant independent of \(f\). This problem has been completely solved in the case in which \(w\) and \(1/v\) are radial and symmetrically decreasing in each of their variables [\textit{W. B. Jurkat} and \textit{G. Sampson}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 33, 257-270 (1984; Zbl 0536.42013)] and in the case in which \(n= 2\), \(p= q= 2\) and \(w\), \({1\over v}\) are symmetrically decreasing in each of their variables [\textit{E. Sawyer}, Stud. Math. 82, 1-16 (1985; Zbl 0585.42020)]. The results of Kerman and Sawyer have been generalized to \(n\) dimensions for conjugate exponents for the case in which \(w\) decreases in each of its variables and \(v(x)= w(1/x)^{p/q}\), \(1/x= (1/x_ 1, 1/x_ 2,\dots, 1/x_ n)\) [\textit{H. P. Heinig} and \textit{G. J. Sinnamon}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 38, No. 3, 603-628 (1989; Zbl 0679.42007)]. In this paper, the authors generalize/extend a number of results of Sawyer (and Kerman), Heinig and Sinnamon, and Jurkat and Sampson.
