In 1974 Mumford published important results concerning the relative dimension of the Prym map for the unramified double covering of compact Riemann surfaces. For ramified coverings this paper gives first results, namely for the following three families of compact Riemann surfaces parametrized by \(t\) or \(t_ 1,t_ 2,t_ 3\): \[ \begin{matrix} \text{(I)} & \tilde R_ t \text{ of genus 3 given by } & y^ 4=(x-1-t)(x^ 2+x+1); \\ & \text{and } R_ t \text{ of genus 1 given by } & y^ 2=(x-1- t)(x^ 2+x+1); \\ \text{(II)} & \tilde R_ t \text{ of genus 4 given by } & y^ 6=(x-1-t)(x^ 2+x+1);\\ & \text{and } R_ t \text{ of genus 1 given by } & y^ 3=(x-1-t) (x^ 2+x+1); \\ \text{(III)} & \tilde R_{t_ 1,t_ 2,t_ 3} \text{ of genus 6 given by } & y^ 4=(x-1-t_ 1)(x-\rho-\rho t_ 2) (x-\rho^ 2-\rho^ 2t_ 3) \\ & \text{and } & \times (x-\rho^ 3)(x-\rho^ 4); \\ & R_{t_ 1,t_ 2,t_ 3} \text{ of genus 2 given by } & y^ 2=(x-1-t_ 1)(x-\rho-\rho t_ 2)(x-\rho^ 2-\rho^ 2 t_ 3) \\ & & \times (x-\rho^ 3) (x- \rho^ 4); \end{matrix} \] where \(\rho=e^{2 \pi i/5}\). From the concrete form of the Prym map one can deduce their local injectivity for any family under consideration. By some skilful calculations the Kodaira- Spencer map for \(t=0\), and \(t_ 1=t_ 2=t_ 3=0\) resp. For any of these families of double coverings is accomplished. The presentation of this paper is performed in a remarkably clear manner.
