The non-steady contact problem for a laminated medium is considered. A method for its solution is based on a combination of analytical methods (the virtual absorption method and the vector-valued eigenfunction method for determining the influence function of the medium in integral Fourier transforms), and on numerical inversion of Laplace transforms. The main result: the solution can describe in detail the dynamics of the punch and the non-steady process in the medium. Moreover, the method allows to examine the systems with arbitrary numbers of layers. Numerical analysis is carried out for a band-shaped punch in frictionless contact with a stack of three or more layers rigidly attached to a non- deformable base. A vertical load is applied to the punch. The displacements of the punch and of the medium points are analysed as functions of time, for different relationships between elastic and geometric parameters entering into the problem.
