The paper studies two examples of homogenization in strongly non- homogeneous media. The first example is concerned with the fluid flow in periodic strongly non-homogeneous porous media (i.e. periodic porous media with high contrast between permeabilities). Different results are obtained depending on the magnitude of the permeability/porosity ratio. The effective coefficients and the integral kernels are estimated for the case of spherical inclusions. The second example is the one of convection-diffusion transport process for a two-component flow in porous media. Here the diffusion coefficient and the conductivity are rapidly oscillating functions of the coordinates, with period \(\epsilon\). Different averaged models are obtained for different dependence of the Péclet number on \(\epsilon\). The method of two-scale asymptotic expansions is employed.
