A primary Kodaira surface \(X\) (i.e. a holomorphic principal bundle \(\zeta\) over an elliptic curve \(B\) with an elliptic curve \(E\) as fiber and \(c (\zeta) \neq 0)\) is non-kählerian and can be realized as quotient of \(\mathbb{C}^ 2\) by a free action of a non-abelian discrete group \(G\) of affine transformations generated by four elements \(g_ 1, \dots, g_ 4\) with \(g_ 2, g_ 2 \in\) Center\((G)\) and \(g_ 3 g_ 4 = g^ m_ 1 g_ 4 g_ 3\), \(n \in \mathbb{N}^ +\). The generators can be given in an explicit form in terms of generators of the lattices for the curves \(E\) and \(B\). With line calculations the author establishes an isomorphism of the Picard group \(H^ 1 (X, {\mathcal O}^*)\) with the cohomology group \(H^ 1 (G,H^*)\), where \(H^*\) denotes the group of non-vanishing holomorphic functions on \(\mathbb{C}^ 2\). Moreover he realizes the free part of the Néron-Severi-group \(H^ 2 (X, \mathbb{Z})\) as a special subgroup \(N\) of the abelian group of integral \((2 \times 2)\)-matrices. Every holomorphic line bundle on \(X\) is determined by its so-called Appel-Humbert data \((u,A)\), where \(A \in N\) and \(u:G \to \mathbb{C}^*\) a mapping satisfying some functional equations related to the group structures of \(G\) and \(\mathbb{C}^*\). This construction is similar to the description of holomorphic line bundles on abelian varieties [see \textit{D. Mumford}, ``Abelian varieties'' (London 1974; Zbl 0326.14012)]. The set of Apple-Humbert data is a direct product of abelian groups by the rule \((u,A) \cdot (u',A') : = (u \cdot u', A + A')\) and, as the main result of the paper, is isomorphic to the Picard group \(H^ 1 (X,{\mathcal O}^*)\).
