The paper under review deals with shape preserving interpolation by the rational-lacunary splines. The interpolatory conditions imposed on the spline interpolant are the area matching conditions. The authors provide sufficient conditions which ensure existence of the convex or monotonic spline interpolants. Some numerical examples are included.
