Let \(\Lambda\) be a two-sided noetherian ring. Consider a minimal injective resolution \(0\to\Lambda\to I_ 0\to\ldots\to I_ j\to\ldots\) for \(\Lambda\) viewed as a left \(\Lambda\)-module. Then \(\Lambda\) is said to be \(k\)-Gorenstein for all \(k\) if the projective dimension of \(I_ j\) does not exceed \(j\) for all \(j\geq 0\). Such a \(\Lambda\) is also called an Auslander ring. Thus, selfinjective artinian algebras are Auslander algebras. In the case where \(\Lambda\) is an artinian Auslander algebra it was proved that the categories of its \(d\)th syzygy modules are closed under extensions for all \(d\geq 0\) and every syzygy module has an associated cotilting module. Furthermore, the authors prove that such a \(\Lambda\) with finite left injective dimension is a Gorenstein algebra. In fact, this gives support for the well-known conjecture due to Nakayama. It should be remarked that a simple proof of a similar statement in the commutative case is presented by \textit{M. Hoshino} [Arch. Math. 55, 355-360 (1990; Zbl 0681.16008)].
