The three-body Schrödinger operator \[ \widetilde H= - \sum^3_{j= 1} {1\over 2m_j} \Delta_{r_j}+ \sum_{1\leq i, j\leq 3} V_{ij}(r_i- r_j) \] in \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^{3N})\) is studied, where \(r_j\in \mathbb{R}^N\) is the position of the \(j\)th particle. It is assumed that \(\ell\in \mathbb{N}\cup \{0\}\) or \(\ell= 3/2\) and \(\delta> \ell+ (N+ 1)/2\) exist such that the potentials \(V_{ij}\) satisfy \(V_{ij}\in C^{2\ell+ 2}(\mathbb{R}^N)\) and \(|\partial^\gamma V_{ij}(x)|\leq C(1+ |x|^2)^{- \delta/2}\), \(|\gamma |\leq 2\ell+ 2\). For suitable choices of \(\ell\) and under an assumption for the eigenvalues the asymptotic behavior for \(\lambda\to \infty\) of the total scattering cross section with two-body initial states for the three-body system is determined, where \(\lambda\) denotes the energy. The proof is based on the time independent approach and uses a representation formula for the scattering matrix and some resolvent estimates.
