Generalized solutions to conservation laws (Q1319028)

The article deals with the generalized solutions in the sense of Colombeau to the Cauchy problem for hyperbolic conservation laws in one space dimension \(u_ t+f(u)_ x=0\) and its corresponding parabolic approximation \(u_ t+f(u)_ x=\mu u_{xx}\), \(\mu>0\). The authors prove existence and uniqueness theorems both for the scalar case and for systems. The relation of the generalized solution to the classical solution, when the latter exists, is established. An application of these results is a \(p\)-system of gas dynamic with artificial viscosity.
