The author studied the stability of a fiber in an elastoplastic matrix near a free cylindrical surface, subjected to a compressive force. To investigate the problem, the author utilized the theory of small deformations superimposed on large initial static deformation. By introducing Lagrangian polar coordinates and some potentials for the displacements, he solved the problem in terms of Bessel functions and obtained stability condition, after using the boundary and regularity conditions. He then numerically investigated the surface stability of fibers. The work is lack of explanations of the symbols used. Therefore it is quite difficult to follow the steps and obtain the conclusion.
