Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(e_ k(G)\) be the maximum of the orders of all nilpotent subgroups of \(G\) of class at most \(k\). Let \({\mathcal B}_ k(G)\) be the set of all nilpotent subgroups of \(G\) of class at most \(k\). A subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) is called a nilpotent injector of \(G\) if \(H\) is a maximal nilpotent subgroup of \(G\) containing an element of \({\mathcal B}_ 2(G)\). This definition was first offered by \textit{A. Bialostocki} [Isr. J. Math. 41, 261-273 (1982; Zbl 0492.20003)], who determined the nilpotent injectors of the symmetric group \(S_ n\) and proved that the nilpotent injectors of \(S_ n\) form a unique conjugacy class of subgroups of \(S_ n\) and the set of nilpotent injectors of \(S_ n\) coincides with the set of the nilpotent subgroups of \(S_ n\) of maximal order. In the present paper, the author determines the nilpotent injectors of \(\text{GL}(n,q)\) and shows that for \(n \neq 2\) they form a unique conjugacy class of subgroups of \(GL(n,q)\) with representative \(F^*_ q I_ n \times U(n,q)\), where \(I_ n\) is the identity matrix and \(U(n,q)\) is the group of all \(n \times n\) matrices over the field \(F_ q\) such that all main diagonal entries are 1 and all entries below the main diagonal are zero. The case \(n = 2\) is also investigated. In the proof the author uses the deep results of \textit{D. A. Suprunenko} about nilpotent subgroups of \(GL(n,q)\) [``Matrix Groups'' (Transl. Math. Monogr. 45 (1976; Zbl 0317.20028)].
